Worked example

With test data 04210000526, the check digit is 4 and the full example becomes 042100005264; that calculation alone says nothing about who owns the number.

Before you print

For products sold through retailers or marketplaces, acquire or verify your own GTIN with GS1 and follow each channel’s requirements before putting the image on packaging.

Barcode artwork is not proof of an assigned GS1 number. A free barcode image and a GS1-issued GTIN are different things.
