ISBN-10 0-306-40615-2 becomes ISBN-13 978-0-306-40615-7. ISBN-10 uses a modulus-11 check, sometimes X; ISBN-13 uses the EAN modulus-10 check. A publisher obtains an ISBN from its national ISBN agency. Drawing these bars does not issue one.
